Here’s a dose of libertarian thought for the common man. Or woman. Or child.  AND it’s Australian (Hello Aussie homeschoolers!! Great resource here!)

If you go to http://theforbiddenhistory.com/  you can also watch The Forbidden History of Unpopular People: an engaging introduction to the value of free speech.  Now if THIS kind of stuff ever made it to the national curriculum, well… I’d eat my hat. 😛

Enjoy! 😀

P.S… There is, restless readers, a real blog post coming.  But this was too good to not post

Jondaryan, and the State of the Nation, and other bits…

Hello dear Bloggy friends!

You’ll never guess what the Bluestocking household has been off doing, while the fate of the nation (politically speaking), hangs in the balance .  Of course, after my last post, I wouldn’t DARE ask you to guess, I’m just going to tell you straight up. 😀

We’ve been to Oakey.  It’s a freezing cold place on the Darling Downs, handy to the Jondaryan Woolshed.  Each year in (windy, freezing) August, the Woolshed hosts the Australian Heritage Festival.  Friends, it’s worth a visit!

There are sheepdog trials, machinery displays, cheese making, sheep shearing, heavy horse displays, blacksmithing, and all sorts of interesting things.  This is not a festival you can explore in just one day: at least, not if your family is passionate about history.  We spent several days there, and could have taken longer to truly explore, while still having adequate time for the younger members of our family to sit in the baby animal enclosure and cuddle lots of small, furry critters.

One of the most delightful aspects for us as a family, amidst a great many delightful experiences, was as a result of people watching 😀  We were in the baby animal enclosure, and observed a family playing nearby our own little ones.  Mr BB whispered to me, “Bet you, they are homeschoolers.”    Funny thing was, they were doing the same…. and came and asked us if we homeschool. 😛

After a good hour of conversation, we found that although they live hours from our city, and although we had never met them before, we are well acquainted with their extended family, and they have friends who work with Mr BB.  It was such a surprise!  Being lovely country folk, they invited us home for dinner.  Friends, I stood in awe.  The lady calmly whipped up dinner for 15.  Yes, between the two families, it made 15 for dinner.  Roast turkey and veggies, with home preserved peaches and custard for dessert. Being as I am the variety of hostess who has brain spasms if required to entertain with less than two weeks notice in writing, I think I could learn a thing or two about hospitality from that dear woman.

All of our children blended famously, and the entertainments included meeting the joey that lives in the house yard, the new Meremma pups, and viewing a glorious collection of eggs, and a the insect collection of an aspiring entomologist. Without a doubt, it was the high point in an already promising holiday. 🙂

My one blot in the week was going into a media black hole, with no internet, and no phone reception.  How could I know, when booking the time away, that I would be wandering off into the wilderness while history was being made with the closest election run in my lifetime?  Considering I had been glued to the ABC website for days, it positively hurt me to know it was going to be decided while I was away.  Of course, it wasn’t, and nothing had really changed when I arrived home (!) and I am grateful for all the time I didn’t waste watching for movements and results.

Lastly, with a turn toward the (ahem!) weightier matters of life, I’ve finally decided on a pair of Docs.  I was sorely tempted by the new florals, but the purist in me had to choose a pair of ten up, cherry reds. 😀  If you don’t think they’d frighten your children (or your mother, or your spouse 😛 ) consider them – truly, every woman should own a pair.  There is a reason they tout them as having “bouncing soles”.

And that’s it folks.  Hope your week’s been great!

The Glories of (small minded) Government

☠ WARNING ☠

SERIOUS RANT IN PROGRESS

What does it take for good men to be maligned?  For useful services to terminated? For a reputation to be destroyed?

Politicians.

Elwyn Denman is a man well known for his business acumen, but equally esteemed for his incredible generosity in giving his time to the community.

Through my association with Elwyn, I have known him to give tirelessly, unstintingly of his time in organizing the DrugArm bookfair each year.  At all hours of the night for many months of the year, he can be found hauling heavy boxes of books around dusty sheds, sorting, stacking…working hard!  Perhaps locals are aware of this because of the media coverage associated with the book fair.

It’s possible that until now, however, unless you had a problem with addiction, or a family member who has, you may not know the true extent of Elwyn’s community spirit.  The houses which the above politician so scathingly refers to are used for people who don’t pay their rent regularly.  They don’t play nice, and their families can no longer cope with them.  Elwyn, a man in his senior years, takes on these people and gives them a chance.

I can assure you, this is no walk in the park, and not something that many people would be prepared to endure.

People, this man GIVES.  It is infuriating; it is shameful; it is just plain wrong, for a small time, two cent politician to take out whatever personal, petty grudge he bears on a man who is truly serving his community.  Since when do we require permission from the government to help people?  Might I add here, that there is no comparable service that the government offers?  That after years of enduring the torments that come with a family member with an addiction, Mr Denman was the only person to actively and usefully help?

Do I care if he didn’t have government approval to serve his community?  Hello?   My family, and so many families in our city who have struggled with addiction, owe this man a debt of gratitude too great to express.

This wretched politician (damn his eyes!) needs to be apologizing to Mr Denman, to his tenants, and to the community he is employed to serve.  Does he really think the families of all those men are going to be pleased that his officious, interfering, grandstanding will mean the end of the only help available to them?  And to what end?  So that he can have a few moments in the sun.

Friends, there are not enough rotten tomatoes in the world to deal with this grand-in-his-own-eyes politician.

American Capitalism Gone with a Whimper…

The article below was written by Stanislav Mishin, a blogger and columnist for the Russian newspaper, Pravda.  Those of my blogging friends who endure my occasional political rants will know that I have watched with a feeling of helpless frustration our own recent plunges into totalitarianism. It’s an interesting, though sobering, read to gain the perspective of someone in country who has been there and done that.

American capitalism gone with a whimper . . . . .

It must be said, that like the breaking of a great dam, the American descent into Marxism is happening with breath taking speed, against the back drop of a passive, hapless sheeple, excuse me dear reader, I meant people.

True, the situation has been well prepared on and off for the past century, especially the past twenty years. The initial testing grounds was conducted upon our Holy Russia and a bloody test it was. But we Russians would not just roll over and give up our freedoms and our souls, no matter how much money Wall Street poured into the fists of the Marxists.

Those lessons were taken and used to properly prepare the American populace for the surrender of their freedoms and souls, to the whims of their elites and betters.

First, the population was dumbed down through a politicized and substandard education system based on pop culture, rather than the classics. Americans know more about their favorite TV dramas than the drama in DC that directly affects their lives. They care more for their “right” to choke down a McDonalds burger or a BurgerKing burger than for their constitutional rights. Then they turn around and lecture us (Russia) about our rights and about our “democracy”. Pride blinds the foolish.

Then their faith in God was destroyed, until their churches, all tens of thousands of different “branches and denominations” were for the most part little more then Sunday circuses and their televangelists and top protestant mega preachers were more then happy to sell out their souls and flocks to be on the “winning” side of one pseudo Marxist politician or another. Their flocks may complain, but when explained that they would be on the “winning” side, their flocks were ever so quick to reject Christ in hopes for earthly power. Even our Holy Orthodox (Russian Orthodox) churches are scandalously liberalized in America.

The final collapse has come with the election of Barack Obama. His speed in the past three months has been truly impressive. His spending and money printing has been a record setting, not just in America’s short history but in the world. If this keeps up for more than another year, and there is no sign that it will not, America at best will resemble the Wiemar Republic and at worst Zimbabwe.

These past two weeks have been the most breath taking of all. First came the announcement of a planned redesign of the American Byzantine tax system, by the very thieves who used it to bankroll their thefts, loses and swindles of hundreds of billions of dollars. These make our Russian oligarchs look little more than ordinary street thugs, in comparison. Yes, the Americans have beat our own thieves in the shear volumes. Should we congratulate them?

These men, of course, are not an elected panel but made up of appointees picked from the very financial oligarchs and their henchmen who are now gorging themselves on trillions of American dollars, in one bailout after another. They are also usurping the rights, duties and powers of the American congress (parliament). Again, congress has put up little more then a whimper to their masters.

Then came Barack Obama’s command that GM’s (General Motor) president step down from leadership of his company. That is correct, dear reader, in the land of “pure” free markets, the American president now has the power, the self given power, to fire CEOs and we can assume other employees of private companies, at will. Come hither, go dither, the centurion commands his minions.

So it should be no surprise that the American president has followed this up with a “bold” move of declaring that he and another group of unelected, chosen stooges will now redesign the entire automotive industry and will even be the guarantee of automobile policies. I am sure that if given the chance, they would happily try and redesign it for the whole of the world, too. Prime Minister Putin, less then two months ago, warned Obama and UK’s Blair, not to follow the path to Marxism, it only leads to disaster. Apparently, even though we suffered 70 years of this Western sponsored horror show, we know nothing, as foolish, drunken Russians, so let our “wise” Anglo-Saxon fools find out the folly of their own pride.

Again, the American public has taken this with barely a whimper…but a “freeman” whimper.

So, should it be any surprise to discover that the Democratically controlled Congress of America is working on passing a new regulation that would give the American Treasury department the power to set “fair” maximum salaries, evaluate performance and control how private companies give out pay raises and bonuses? Senator Barney Franks, a social pervert basking in his homosexuality (of course, amongst the modern, enlightened American societal norm, as well as that of the general West, homosexuality is not only not a looked down upon life choice, but is often praised as a virtue) and his Marxist enlightenment, has led this effort. He stresses that this only affects companies that receive government monies, but it is retroactive and taken to a logical extreme, this would include any company or industry that has ever received a tax break or incentive.

The Russian owners of American companies and industries should look thoughtfully at this and the option of closing their facilities down and fleeing the land of the Red as fast as possible. In other words, divest while there is still value left.

The proud American will go down into his slavery with out a fight, beating his chest and proclaiming to the world, how free he really is. The world will only snicker.

Beattie, Bligh, and the Whole Abominable Business

Cartoon by Nicholson from "The Australian" newspaper: http://www.nicholsoncartoons.com.au

“Queensland now I think is the Australian leading state in the advancement of women.”

Former Queensland premier Peter Beattie.

Anna Bligh is Australia’s first female premier elected in her own right.  We should be excited about that, right?

If you can be excited about the thought of reckless spending, drinking sewerage, and creeping socialism, and the right of your political leaders to tell bare faced lies and go unchallenged, I guess you’re excited.  But it’s not my cup of tea.

Even if I thought Anna Bligh was a paragon of virtue, was fiscally responsible, and less of a Nazi than she is, I would still be cringing today.

Why?  I’m glad you asked.  What exactly are the implications of a female leader of state?  Clearly, opinion is that she is the best man for the job: and therein lies my angst.  I don’t want to live in a society where a woman is the best man we have.  It’s wrong, it’s scary, and it’s an abomination!

The natural, God given order of life is that the man is the head, the leader, the protector, and the one less prone to deception.  The ability of a woman to do the job is not in question.  The authority of the woman to do it, is.

How can a man bear the knowledge that Anna, in her power suit and pearl earrings, is making choices about how his money is spent, his children will be educated, his business practices will be legislated?  Was there not a man in the whole of Queensland to be found who could do the job?  It’s shameful.

The advancement of women indeed!  It is no progression, and no cause for celebration in my view, to find I live in a state where a woman is the best man we have.

None Dare Call It Conspiracy

none dare call it conspiracy

.

.

This unpretentious little paperback, written in the 70’s by Gary Allen, has a lot of calmly presented, easy to understand information about how governments are manipulated by a few “insiders”, and how the masses are manipulated by the media.

Having watched with amazement the bias in media reporting during our last federal election here in Australia, and observed with interest the election of Barak Obama to the presidency of the U.S.A, both resulting in incontrovertibly socialist governments, it was almost a twilight zone experience to read NDCIC.  The author explains the need to implement a socialist agenda in each country before any move toward  a One World Government would be possible.

It discusses the creation of crisis which allow a “solution” to be implemented by the government.  This solution often results in a loss of freedom for the individual.  It was as though he was speaking of our current political situation: I have observed this very thing over and over in the last year.

Our current Prime Minister, during a lot of posturing and blustering about our education system, has taken the initiative to remove jurisdiction from the states in education, and command a federal agenda be allowed.  In “saving” our education system, he is actually removing the freedom of curriculum choice from the individual schools and forcing a shamelessly left curriculum on the masses.

Somehow examples like these are given a positive spin in the media, and people fail to see the writing on the wall.  So programmed have we become, that we not only accept, but demand government intervention in areas of life that the government has no right to go.

The book makes you look at larger global events through the same reasoning: those with an agenda, and a financial interest, manufacture large scale crisis which require a lot of spending, and more government control.

I can only describe reading this book as being eerily similar to reading Spurgeon’s downgrade controversy and thinking – this man was writing about today.  The thirty something years that have passed since None Dare Call it Conspiracy was written have done nothing to diminish the relevance of the message.
