Each year the Creation Science Education Association hold competitions reflecting the National Science Theme, from a Creation perspective.
The Irish Chicklette wrote an acrostic, Miss 10 made a telescope, and Miss 7 wrote an illustrated book. Each entry had to reflect a teaching from the Bible, be explicit about God as Creator, and show man’s awareness of the heavens. I’d like to share Miss 7’s entry with you
The End.
My favourite part?
The high-rise buildings in Bethlehem

Miss 7 is quite the illustrator and the high rise looks good in the walled city!
Poor ol’ Bill speaks like Bruce Lee in a chinese martial arts movie!!

I am extremely impressed! Well done to your talented children!

What a fabulous little book! Well done Miss 7!
Mrs BB, was it Miss 7’s idea to use this particular story? It is a good example, I believe, for the comp…

ps. perhaps your stay at Surfers Paradise left it’s mark in her tender young mind?? lol

Ruby, I thought his voice quite nice, though I couldn’t help being reminded of the Cheshire Cat in Alice in Wonderland, while watching his mouth move.
The art lessons are showing fruit in that most of the colours used are mixed (we have been doing colour theory for a couple of months now). Apart from some interesting colours, it means there is a LOT of colour going on the page, since it gets two applications!
Thanks, Christine, I thought she did a fine job and certainly spent a great deal of time on it.
Amanda, I can’t remember if it was my idea, or if it was listed on the papers sent with the competition details. The association sends out a HUGE lot of ideas of things to do through out the year to fit with the science theme, so you can base a lot of your studies around the theme.
Surfers Paradise
I thought the same thing exactly!!

Apologies! The speaking voice was good and appropriate….it was the lip sinking I was comparing to Bruce Lee!

Oh, of course! The Muppets came to mind, too. You know how they spoke by lifting half their heads? Very disconcerting in a person!

Yes! LOL!

AHh like a science fair. I participated in those once, but invariably I always screwed them up like the day before the fair, like the one year I decided to do it on “How Many Holes Are there in Saltine Crackers”–yeah, never realized that there are 13 in each one before. I thought they were like Swiss cheese, I guess. Ever since then I’ve been kinda turned off to the whole idea.

Hmmm. I am not sure about the scope of science fairs? This competition encompasses art, writing, music, maths, as well as what I consider to be more traditional science, so long as all those things reflect the science theme.
But I’d say the goal is the same.
It sounds like the goal, learning, was achieved in your case
After the passage of time you still can recall your findings! While the knowledge of the number of holes in a Saltine cracker may not yet have been used to the betterment of mankind, you just never know when the need for that kind of data may present
Thanks for your visit.

Hi Joi,
Have you ever heard of Shibam in Yemen? It is a 2nd Century city of mud brick skyscrapers!! They look much like your daughter’s picture:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Shibam
(If you google it you get much better images, but I didn’t have time to check how family friendly the sites were so I thought I’d stick with Wiki.)
Loved your interview on Aussie Homeschool.

Hello Jeanne,
I hadn’t heard of Shibam: thanks for sharing the link! I imagine the sky scrapers in Bethlehem looked just like that!
Thanks for your kind words about the interview, and for your visit.
